Pedro Amaral Frazão is a retired Portuguese Naval Officer (Captain, OF-5) with extensive operational and senior staff experience in NATO and national defence roles. He later held senior positions within naval and maritime authorities in Madeira and, in 2007, was awarded the rank of Commander of the Military Order of Avis by the President of the Portuguese Republic.
In 2013, he joined the private sector, taking up roles on the governing bodies of Grupo Sousa, a leading Portuguese maritime-port group based in Madeira. Between 2017 and 2024, he served as Director and Chief Sustainability Officer, with responsibility for energy, sustainability and corporate social responsibility, and led the implementation of the Portuguese LNG Virtual Pipeline to Madeira until 2022.
Currently, Pedro Amaral Frazão serves as Secretary-General of the Portuguese Shipowners’ Association, Advisor to the President of Grupo Sousa for Corporate Social Responsibility, Vice-President of GRACE – Responsible Business Association, and an SDG 17 Ambassador. He is also a member of advisory councils on energy, decarbonisation and the maritime economy, and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on shipping, sustainability and CSR.
