ECSA welcomes the confirmation of new Transport Commissioner-designate Adina Ioana Vălean
On behalf of the European shipping industry, ECSA warmly welcomes the confirmation of Adina Ioana Vălean as the new Transport Commissioner-designate, after the hearing at the European Parliament held yesterday.
Of Romanian nationality, Ms Vălean has been active in EU-level policymaking as an MEP since 2007. She was rapporteur on the Connecting Europe Facility, a key EU funding instrument to promote growth, jobs and competitiveness through targeted infrastructure investment at the European level. The transport component of the CEF has been an important funding instrument to help realise Europe’s transport infrastructure ambitions.
Ms Vălean was Chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Committee for Environment, Public Health and Food Safety from 2017 to 2019 and is currently Chairwoman of the Committee for Industry, Research and Energy in the current legislature.
“The European shipping industry looks forward to working closely with Ms Vălean to achieve its ambitious climate goals,” said Martin Dorsman, ECSA’s Secretary-General.
“Due to her long experience in the Parliament, her deep understanding of the transport sector, as well as her knowledge of global trade and digitalisation, Ms Vălean’s vision of sustainable, smart and fair transport fully aligns with ECSA’s 10 priorities for the next five years.”
