To celebrate the Day of the Seafarer 2024, the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) seek to gather policymakers, seafarers, industry and unions for an event dedicated to exploring the potential of future careers at sea.

Seafarers play a vital role in the global economy, facilitating international trade, and connecting nations across the seas. They are the beating heart of the maritime transport industry. 

Shipping is undergoing an existential transformation linked to green and digital technology. Future clean fuel technologies and technologically advanced ships will require new skills. There is therefore and immediate need for upskilling and reskilling of the maritime workforce.

During the event, we will explore how to centre the green and digital transition around people and exchange with students on the different career paths offered by the maritime profession. The event will also include a guided tour of the Antwerp Maritime Academy.
